    • Meeting: I.FAST Task 7.2

      29. May 2024 Regular Meeting

      Participants (alphabetic order)

      A. Mochihashi, A. Shahveh, G. Franzini, I. Martin, M. Boege, R. Geometrante, R. Nagaoka, R. Ruprecht

      - IPAC report

      • A. M briefly reported the results of the contribution (a poster presentation) in IPAC’24. During the poster presentation, the audience gave several positive comments about our networking activities.
      • The presenter (A. M) received comments from a few people that they didn’t receive the workshop information, though the workshops had seemed very attractive.
      • Until now, we have distributed the workshop information using a mailing list. However, the information may not have reached people who are not involved in ultralow emittance rings, synchrotron light sources, and colliders. Another reason may be that the mailing list we have used is already out of date.
      • One possible countermeasure is to ask the Jacow organizer about publishing workshop information on the Jacow website. Continuously using the latest mailing list and asking the IFAST office to publish the workshop information is recommended.
      • A. M received news from one of the workshop participants that the experimental results from the joint experimental campaign in March 2024 had been conducted in another facility after the workshop. This shows that networking works well in practice.

      - Discussion: workshop ideas

      • Longitudinal beam dynamics and RF systems
        • Hardware: RF cavities, RF generators such as SSAs and klystrons, low-level RF, etc.
        • Beam dynamics: harmonic cavities, RF modulation and gymnastics, bunch lengthening, etc.
        • An experimental campaign at the KARA storage ring concerning the RF system and longitudinal beam dynamics will be available.

      • Accelerator stability workshop
        • Treating a wide range of stability issues from ~0.1 Hz to over several hundred kilo Hertz.
        • Beam position, collective motion, mechanical vibration, thermal expansion, beam energy, beam current, beam size, etc.
        • A topic concerning beam stability related to vacuum systems, such as NEG coating chambers and vacuum technologies, can be included in the workshop.
        • R. N gave us information about the paper concerning microbunching instability under the NEG coating vacuum environment (see the attached PDF file on the Indico website).
        • M. B gave us information about the alignment technology for accelerator systems.

      • These two topics seem attractive for networking activities in ultralow emittance rings. It’s ideal to organize these two workshops in a similar way to the two workshops in March 2024. To search for the possibility, A. M will briefly make the first draft of the workshop plan to check if it is feasible or not.

      - Meeting organization

-A M mentioned that regular meetings will be organized with the Indico website.
