Description

The SARA project (Software Archiving of Research Artefacts) focuses on the development of a new scientific service that allows long-term access and publication of research data and scientific software. The poster represents the project’s motivation and goals, as well as important core components and features of the first SARA service prototype.
The SARA server forms the core of the service, building upon the Git version control software with its rich mechanisms for versioning software. The service allows users to archive the entire Git repo, including the version history (or parts of it). To make the stored data accessible for others and reusable for the long-term, the SARA service provides descriptive metadata for all archived software artefacts, and the option to publish it in the user’s institutional repository as a citable bibliographical record. The SARA's approach on archiving and publication is also being investigated in the context of research data in the HPC-field.
